A Red Red Rose (Robert Burns)

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

I Carry Your Heart (E.E. Cummings)

I carry your heart with me,
I carry it in my heart,
I am never without it ,
Anywhere I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done,
By only me is your doing,my darling,
I fear no fate, for you are my fate,my sweet,
I want no world, for beautiful you are my world, my true,
And it's you are whatever a moon has always meant,
And whatever a sun will always sing is you.

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows,
Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud,
And the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
Which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide,
And this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart.

I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart.

Camomile Tea (Katherine Mansfield)

Outside the sky is light with stars;
There's a hollow roaring from the sea.
And, alas! for the little almond flowers,
The wind is shaking the almond tree.

How little I thought, a year ago,
In the horrible cottage upon the Lee
That he and I should be sitting so
And sipping a cup of camomile tea.

Light as feathers the witches fly,
The horn of the moon is plain to see;
By a firefly under a jonquil flower
A goblin toasts a bumble-bee.

We might be fifty, we might be five,
So snug, so compact, so wise are we!
Under the kitchen-table leg
My knee is pressing against his knee.

Our shutters are shut, the fire is low,
The tap is dripping peacefully;
The saucepan shadows on the wall
Are black and round and plain to see.

Dreams Are Not For Beds

Don't let them turn out the light,
Your dreams will fade away,
They come like a thief in the night,
A spoiled child's game they play,
To turn your world upside down,
For selfish reasons in their heads,
Keep the flame where it cannot be found,
My dear love, dreams are not for beds.

Treasures await those who have the key,
Of hope for doing the will of love,
One half in you and the other in me,
A light from the highest beam above,
Placed deep within what no one else can give,
Some winds can turn blues to reds,
This one cries out 'let me live',
My dear love, dreams are not for beds.

It is not for us to know when or where,
How is not really up to you,
Glory waits for those who should dare,
Only a leap of faith will do,
But you must not ever close your eyes,
For this can only be seen if you are awake,
Don't believe the jealous lies,
Of a walking, talking snake,
Because when the time is finally right,
This creature's skin will be shed,
Then it will be revealed by light,
My dear love, that dreams are not for beds.

Worth It

This time is hard and trying,
I'm climbing up a growing mountain,
I'm swimming against the current,
And it looks like it's going to hail.

These days are dark and frightening,
I've got a flashlight,
But I can't find the batteries,
I'm protected by an imaginary bear.

I say hello as the world says get lost,
If I stuck out my thumb,
They wouldn't even give me a ride,
To the hospital after they've run me over.

Lost, helpless, and hopeless,
Stressed, confused, and scared,
And let's not forget useless,
I could use less of this.

But then I look at you, and I know it's all worth it.

Sunrise

You could never love me too much,
Too much is not enough,
I could never love you enough,
Enough is not that much.

I never tire of your hands, your lips, and your eyes,
Touch my soul the way that you do,
Wake me up my glorious sunrise,
As day after day I grow more in love with you.

My Love

How do you describe the undescribable,
Or explain the unexplainable,
To make you understand what you have never known,
Make you see what you've never seen,
To tell you of things you've never heard?

I might as well point out a sunrise to the blind,
I might as well give a deaf child a radio,
There is more hope for them to know these things,
To imagine what they could possibly be,
These things that have been known by many,
These things so tellable.

This is my love of which you have never experienced,
Nor anyone you have ever spoken to,
Not one soul that has ever walked this earth,
The smallest details will leave you lost,
Wondering around for eternity in your mind,
Trying to make sense of it,
This thing your mind could not possibly grasp.

Imagine the most gorgeous person you've ever seen,
The most beautiful scenery you have ever witnessed,
Imagine the rarest gem you have ever laid your eyes upon,
Imagine the loveliest music you have ever heard,
The best dream you have ever had,
The one where you never want to wake up.

This is not even close,
Not comparable in the least,
This is not so much as a glimpse of my love.

When you hear the name Shiena don't hestitate,
Don't stop to think,
A second too slow and you will be too late,
Turn and look with your hand shading your eyes,
Don't dare to blink your dusty eyes,
This is my love.

To my gorgeous wife Shiena. I love you. January, 30, 2011

Patience for Two

patience my love
the day will come before you know it
a clock will tick,
an engine will roar,
many miles will be a blur,
my heart will pound as the wheels touch down,
on a distant shore.

just a little longer now,
you're doing great,
i know you've waited lifetimes for this,
i have waited too,
lifetimes of sorrow and lonliness for this fate,
my destiny was always with you.

we made it past the liars,
we made it past the cheats,
it cost us our tears,
it cost us our hopes,
it broke our hearts,
and it wore our souls thin,
but i promise you my love it will not happen again.

wait now, wait just a little while,
i'll reach out to you and grab your hand,
with a nervous smile  I'll look into your eyes as i pull you close,
i'll hold onto you so tight against myself,
i want to hold you now,
my heart is aching,
just a little bit longer now.

i am beside myself,
but the day is breaking,
and i will be with you soon.

patience my love,
don't forget to hold a place for me,
hold a place for me at your table,
save a place for me by your pillow,
save a place for me in your heart,
never give up,
never lose faith,
you are the one,
you are my girl,
you were since i first saw you.

an eyelid will flutter,
a light will flicker,
things will become clearer,
and i will be there right next to you,
reach out,
i'm in front of you,
you will know,
and i will kiss you,
patience.

Someday Not Soon Enough

forever is not enough,
together is too far,
memories are imitations,
thoughts don't mean as much,
wishes, hopes, and dreams;
they are much less than they seem,
they are much less than they seemed,
for now this is all there is,
for now this means everything,
but its fading away,
i cling onto what isn't there,
i smile at the feelings i get,
but i'm reminded of what i don't have,

what if what was becomes should have,
what if today becomes yesterday,
what if it all passes by, and i'm left alone,
all these things will comfort me little.

what i need is for time to disappear,
what i want is for somedays to not exist,
dreams to become reality,
hope to be for someone else,
to be with you, not just within you,
and then i can smile,
and think of all that i have.

How do I Love Thee... (Elizabeth Barrett Browning)

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,—I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! And, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Love Sonnet 109 (William Shakespeare)

O, never say that I was false of heart,
Though absence seemed my flame to qualify.
As easy might I from my self depart
As from my soul which in thy breast doth lie.
That is my home of love; if I have ranged,
Like him that travels I return again,
Just to the time, not with the time exchanged,
So that myself bring water for my stain.
Never believe though in my nature reigned
All frailties that besiege all kinds of blood,
That it could so preposterously be stained
To leave for nothing all thy sum of good;
For nothing this wide universe I call
Save thou, my rose, in it thou art my all.

Those Lips that Love's Own Hand Did Make (William Shakespeare)

Those lips that Love's own hand did make
Breathed forth the sound that said "I hate"
To me that languished for her sake;
But when she saw my woeful state,
Straight in her heart did mercy come,
Chiding that tongue that ever sweet
Was used in giving gentle doom,
And taught it thus anew to greet:
"I hate" she altered with an end,
That followed it as gentle day
Doth follow night, who like a fiend
From heaven to hell is flown away.
"I hate" from hate away she threw,
And saved my life, saying "not you."

Even As A Lovely Flower (Heinrich Heine)

Even as a lovely flower,
So fair, so pure thou art;
I gaze on thee, and sadness
Comes stealing o'er my heart.

My hands I fain had folded
Upon thy soft brown hair,
Praying that God may keep thee
So lovely, pure and fair.

A Special World (Sheelagh Lennon)

A special world for you and me
A special bond one cannot see
It wraps us up in its cocoon
And holds us fiercely in its womb.

Its fingers spread like fine spun gold
Gently nestling us to the fold
Like silken thread it holds us fast
Bonds like this are meant to last.

And though at times a thread may break
A new one forms in its wake
To bind us closer and keep us strong
In a special world, where we belong.

I Held A Jewel (Emily Dickinson)

I held a jewel in my fingers
And went to sleep
The day was warm, and winds were prosy
I said, "Twill keep"

I woke - and chide my honest fingers,
The Gem was gone
And now, an Amethyst remembrance
Is all I own.
